A major exhibition at The National Archives on the history of treason since 1352. The exhibition brings iconic and unknown archival documents to life, including the original Treason Act and the Monteagle Letter that tipped off the Gunpowder Plot.
From the most famous treason trials such as Guy Fawkes, Anne Boleyn and Charles I, to the cook who poisoned the porridge and the young girl tried as a witch, the exhibition showcases nearly 700 years of treasonous history.
The graphic design approach works closely with the 3D and AV design to create five distinct areas, each with its own tone. The design uses strong colour and plays with conventional type approaches. Variations of a pattern of shards – also signifying disruption – play across the space, and we worked with a set painter to paint out the colour to give white areas for the exhibition narrative.
